So it was 1997, I was a senior in high school, and WJJS was having their annual summer jam where they would bring nobody acts to Roanoke to entertain us for free. Somehow one of my friends got backstage passes to the event, so we went to the back to see what was going on. I remember 98 degrees or C-Note or one of those bad boy bands were headlining, but there was this new group of teen girls who had yet to blow that opened up by the name of Destiny’s Child. They were cute, but they were young we thought. My man ended up talking to Beyonce for most of the time we were backstage and I had a crush on Letoya so I spent my time cozying up to her. Although this was almost 10 years ago, I don’t remember anyone talking to the other girl.
That other girl turned out to be Kelly Rowland. And man o man were we and Roy Williams stupid. Kelly is damn fine and definitely all grown up. Although I’m not expecting too much from her album, I certainly enjoy the single (or is it b/c of the video?).
Beyonce is Beyonce (which means she’s perfect). Letoya turned out to be a good-looking girl. I wish Farrah coulda stayed around longer (do you remember the backside on her? If not, check here.) Michelle- um, she doesn’t get mentioned.
But Kelly has turned out to be a certified dime piece. That beautiful brown skin, those legs (see above), and her undeniable sex appeal (watch the video again- go ahead, I’ll wait) make her my new DC favorite. Although Beyonce claims to love being natural (yea, right), I think Kelly is a true natural beauty. I know yall remember the short cut from back in the day. She’s just a cutie. Beyonce looks like she could be a lil high-maintenance while Kelly would probably be cool watching a movie at the crib with microwave popcorn and orange soda (at least in my fantasy she likes that).
So in the inaugural Sneakerboxx Fave Ladies, I’d like to nominate Kelly Rowland. I hope the album does well and Kells, I’m def not jealous of a chick with dough. Haha…holla @ me, and I’m sorry about that time back in 1997…you forgive me?
