Superstar Jay and Busta Rhymes- I’ve Already Outshined Your Favorite Rapper

It’s the weekend, and while I’m like Biggie Smalls (”I (eye) lazy”), them 2dopeboyz certainly aren’t. Pick this mixtape up over there (good looks Shake).

What I want to talk about is what this mixtape is trying to convey. I have said for years that Busta Rhymes is one of the most underrated MCs the game has ever seen. Ask anyone to name their top 5 (or even top 10 for that matter), and I bet my man Trevor wouldn’t be named by someone claiming to be a hip-hop head.

But that’s just the thing. Busta has been the most consistent and can spit any flow you want. He’s worked with damn near everyone, be it hip-hop, R and B, and pop. You can literally do a “Six degrees of Busta” game with your friends if you want to. I have listened to all of Busta’s albums, and I have enjoyed most of them.

Another thing about Busta is his versatility. The man can spit hard, commercial, fast, slow…it doesn’t matter. The man probably has 10 songs that get the club rockin’ and get the ladies doing what they do. I’ve never been mad when a Bussa Buss song has come on in the spot.

So is “I’ve already outshined your favorite rapper” a factual statement? I don’t know if I would go that far, but Busta definitely doesn’t get the respect that he deserves as far as being a dope MC. The man has longevity in the game, something that a lot of these ringtone rappers will never get the chance to say.  I’ve been listening to Busta since the Leaders of the New School, when he showed that he was a star amongst his peers.

And yes, I’m one of the ones that wouldn’t have Busta in my top 10, but maybe after listening to this mixtape I’ll change my mind.  Cause that Dilla mixtape was def the truth earlier this year.  Happy listening.

The Empire, Lil Wayne- The Drought is Over 5 (Grand Closing)

I have purposefully not listened to any of the Wayne tracks that have been leaking over the past week from this mixtape. Not in anticipation of the mixtape…just b/c I’m tired of Wayne. Son has fallen off for the past year. I don’t know if it’s the drug (ab)use or he ran out of Gillie’s rhyme books.

Anyway, I’m going to download this and check it out.

Grand Theft Auto IV Trailer

Might be time to dust the 360 off and give this game some run.

Lastly, GTA IV is dropping a soundtrack that “guess who” has written a track for?

Rockstar has boldly proclaimed that GTA IV’s soundtrack is “the biggest in the history of entertainment,” and with over 150 tracks, we’re not prone to argue. In addition to high-profile tunes from popular artists, the developers are aiming for music geeks by handpicking rare, hard-to-find songs such as Electrick Funk’s 12-inch treasure “On A Journey” and Elton John’s “Street Kids” off his relatively unheralded Rock of the Westies. Some artists have even contributed brand new songs written exclusively for the game, including “Vagabond (Liberty City Mix)” by the Greenskeepers and “War is Necessary” from iconic rapper Nas. 

April 29th can’t come fast enough.

Nike Cortez- Running Man Pack

I’ve never been a big fan of the Nike Cortez, but these are a good look. Plus they are navy, and you know how I am when it comes to navy shoes.

Opting for a less ostentatious coloway than his Running Man counterparts, the Todd James designed Nike Cortez features a Navy upper constructed of Nylon and Suede. Adding some pop to the otherwise classic looking upper, the “Todd James” Nike Cortez features a Metallic Silver Swoosh and a University Blue heel tab that features Todd James’ lighting character.

Nike Zoom Kobe III SL- White/ Black

Dropping April 1 at major nationwide retailers.  These might be the pair that I cop for the Kobe signature series collection.  I’ve heard from more than 1 person that these are the most comfortable basketball sneakers that they have ever worn.

Different from the previous Nike Zoom Kobe III releases, the “SL” version of the Nike Zoom Kobe III features a durable and breathable synthetic leather upper as opposed to the TPU/Mesh combo. The Nike Zoom Kobe III SL is set to release with a White upper and minimal Black accents.

CWebb Retires; Hall of Fame Bound?

In 1993, I was a do- everything power forward for my freshman basketball team at Patrick Henry High School. I was 6 foot 3, could jump out the gym, and averaged 17 points, 11 rebounds, and 3 assists per game. And I modeled my game after #4 Chris Webber.

For you youngsters, the Fab 5 of Michigan was EVERYBODY’S favorite college team. The high black socks, the Barkleys…all freshmen, all doing work on the national stage. But no star shined brighter than Chris Webber.

Webber is set to retire after 15 seasons in the league (I can’t believe it’s been that long).  The only people now remaining from the 1993 draft class are Sam Cassell and Lindsey Hunter.  He is one of 6 players in the league to average at least 20 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 assists a game.  (Official numbers: 21 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists per game for his career.)  The other players: KG, Larry Legend, Wilt the Stilt, Elgin Baylor, and Billy Cunningham, with the last 4 in the Hall of Fame and KG certainly on his way.

So…is Chris Webber deserving of a Hall of Fame nod?  A career full of promise ended by injuries.  Let me know.
